I used to love Greek Mythology, still do actually.

So yesterday while snowed in at home, I sat down and watched one of my all-time favorite movies: 1981’s Clash of the Titans. The flick, full of old school heavy hitters like Burgess Meredith, Dame Maggie Smith, and Laurence Olivier tells the tale of the Greek hero Perseus and his many conquests. Its all there: Zeus, Mt. Olympus, Medusa, Pegasus – heaven for a greek geek like me.

But I digress.

Whenever I’m watching a movie on my computer, I’m bound to wikipedia something about it to learn more. Whether looking up the inspirations behind the movie, fact finding, or reading the plot outline to clear up any questions I might have, I always wiki something! So of course, I looked up “Clash of the Titans,” and what do you know, there’s a remake coming out next year in March!

And then I saw… there’s tons of sequels and adaptations coming out next year, so I thought I’d post a few.

“Clash of the Titans” – Releasing March 26, 2010

“Robin Hood” – Releasing  May 14, 2010

Ridley Scott [the producer of Gladiator] teams up with Russel Crowe again [with Hollywood gold Cate Blanchett] for the remake.

“Shrek Forever After” – Releasing May 21, 2010

[The final installment of the most successful animated franchise ever].

“Prince of Persia: Sands of Time – Releasing May 28, 2010

[Screen adaptation, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, of the very popular game franchise.]

May 2010 is going to be poppin!

PS. For all things movies check out the ThatGirlOnTV Blog HERE via one of my former VIBE edit interns, Chiderah Monde. Girl knows her movies.

For the new music today I thought it would be cool if majority of the artists weren’t big names. So, lets kick it off with two names you should know followed by a few names trying to get their break into the industry.

[Monica-One in a Lifetime]

[Kandy Life- Lady Gaga] (recorded before her first album)

[Winner-Krys Ivory]

[Tipsy- Tayma Loren ft. The Dream]

[Sex Playlist-Chrishan]

Enjoy.

Here’s a leak from Beyoncé called “Black Culture.” It is an interesting recording that sounds like it samples Michael Jackson. I doubt this song is anything to take too seriously, it really sounds like Beyoncé was just having fun in the studio. The track isn’t amazing but it is an interesting ode to the late King of Pop and a fun experiment.

You know, I didn’t really care for it too much at first but the more I listen to it the more it grows on me.

I want to give a special shoutout to my homegirl Brittany for giving me the tip off about this! Here is the official trailer for Sex and The City 2. I am a huge Sex and The City fan, and pride myself on having seen every single episode ever created. (I had a lot of time on my hands freshman year) I am more than excited to see this, and I’ll probably watch the trailer atleast 5 more times before I go to see. I can’t wait to get CARRIEd away, can you?!

R&B ‘it-boy’ of the moment Trey Songz covers the January issue of Honey Magazine. In his interview (that is no where near as raunchy/sexual as his last) he talks about how he’s grown, twitter, and competition in the male R&B game.

Read the interview and see more pictures [here].

As always this was for your PNC and Felicia..haha

A Bathing Ape Spring 2010 collection featuring Kanye West.

I’m usually not a fan of A Bathing Ape but I must say for the most part their 2010 collection goes in.

Here is the fifth single and video from Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 album, “Young Forever” featuring Mr. Hudson. This is my favorite track on the album, and the video is extremely simple, to the point and does the song justice. If you haven’t already, make sure to cop the Blueprint 3 , and definitely cop Mr.Hudson’s Straight No Chaser–both were certainly some of the best of ‘09.

Here’s the cool/fun video for band Ok Go’s latest “WTF?” featured off their upcoming album Of the Blue Colour of the Sky releasing in January. I’m a sucker for fun and borderline pointless videos (Ok Go master this well).

We’ve shown you a preview of the shoe line [here] and now want you to take a peek at the ‘Sweet Charity’ bag collection from designer Christian Louboutin.

The colors are amazing in my opinion.

Yea, they probably cost close to half of your semester tuition at school but if you got it, flaunt it.

Ban.Do is an accessory line out of Los Angeles that features fun and colorful head bands, belts, and corsages. Although the prices aren’t exactly a steal (most of the head bands range from $30-45), the line is a cool one that caters to the needs of those with that funky eclectic style. Check some of their head bands out.

Check out more of Ban.Do (including their belts and corsages) [here].

The next single coming from Timbaland’s highly underwhelming album Shock Value II will be “Carryout” featuring Justin Timberlake. I think it’s a smart move as it’s one of the few decent tracks I like on the disc. The video trailer (I think it’s funny all music videos are getting trailers nowadays) shows performance footage and an interview. The full video will be released in January.

One of my favorite tracks from Mariah Carey’s latest effort Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel “Up Out My Face” is getting the single treatment. Of course, the track is being remixed featuring hot girl rapper of the moment Nicki Minaj. Here are a few pics from the shoot.

Mariah is dropping a re-release of her album that will feature a remix for each track. It’s due February 23.

Looks like it’s going to be an interesting video.

Fashion magazines always tickle my fancy. Flipping through the pages of GQ, Esquire, Details or even Complex or Vibe can give a feeling of inspiration or confidence in one’s fashion. It’s fun to get new ideas for your own personal style and to see some interesting new fashion pieces. Fashion literature is an integral aspect of the conscious stylish individual’s ability to maintain their fly, their steez. Well, I’ve found a book that caters to history and uniqueness of American menswear fashion.Have a peek at American Fashion Menswear by Robert E. Bryan.

The book looks to showcase the evolution of American men’s fashion. From the practical and functional to the stylish and extravagant, men’s fashion has been as important in America has women’s. The book also shows powerful icons that have shaped fashion as well as the classic looks that still remain inspiration for today’s fashion.

Introducing Beyonce’s very first fragrance, Heat.

Heat will be available to retailers in February 2010, and has already received great reviews amongst fans. I hope it smells good, if so I’ll definitely be getting a bottle, I need to re-up on my perfume colleciton anyway.

“A lot of my performances have had fire involved, so we thought ‘Heat.’ Also, red is one of my favorite colors, as is gold.

“I wanted something with an antique yet modern feeling,” she said. “Even with my wardrobe, I always try to find things that have a little bit of something vintage, yet still timeless and classic.”

Here is a new joint from Musiq Soulchild titled “Fish In The Sea“. I had the opportunity to see Musiq in concert during Howard Homecoming and he was phenomenol–definitely one of my favorite NeoSoul artists, so I’m glad to see some new material from him.

I’ll make this simple.

Zoe Saldana is gorgeous and is slowing working her way up to being that ‘it’ girl in Hollywood.

And she’s marrying me.

zoe-saldana-12170901Seriously, it was love at first sight-that moment I saw her in Drumline. Now, she’s doing monstrous movies like Star Trek and the new Avatar film that released today. Below is Zoe at the premiere for the film.

If Aisha can salivate over Trey Songz, I’m allowed to constantly drool over Zoe.

Fashion house Chloé (made famous in the 70’s by its famous former designer Karl Lagerfeld) is now known for one thing, its bags. The Paddington Bag is the house’s famous staple and a bag most girls aspire to own. Over the past couple of decades, the fashion empire has only catered to women. Well, shit happens and things change.  Introducing the Mr. Paddington Bag line, the first exploration of men’s bags by Chloé.

chloe-mr-paddington-series-bagsIf they are anything like their female counterparts, they will cost a pretty penny. It’s good to know fashion is continually opening up more and more to the male audience. Guys can be fly too!

Supermodel Sasha Pivovarova in the Pied Pipers of Rock and Vogue Fashion Editorial

Featured in the January 2010 Issue of Vogue Magazine

Shot by Steven Meisel, Styled by Grace Coddington

This post has me feeling some type of way.

On one hand, I just so happened to be lamenting the lack of “blackness” in Vogue via Twitter not 45 minutes ago. Lamenting, like so many others, the reluctance of Anna Wintour and the “powers that be” in inducing a bit of melanin into the pages of the world’s most famous fashion editorial.

So of course when I go “post hunting” the most magnetic thing I see is from none other than Vogue magazine.

In the Pied Pipers of Rock and Vogue editorial shot by reknowned photgrapher Steven Meisel and styled by probably the most-powerful-person-at-Vogue-not-named-Anna, Grace Coddington, Sasha Pivovarova poses with some of the newest, and more interesting names in Rock and Roll. With bands like MGMT, The Horrors, Chester French, and Vampire Weekend [almost all of whom have been featured here on MESH.] Vogue celebrates the history of such iconic labels [Balenciaga, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, etc.] and all they have accomplished, while simultaneously looking ahead at what the houses have in store for the future.

I love this editorial, the limited bit of it that I can see that is, for so many reasons. Coddington has always been a maven at Vogue, styling with ferocious and wreckless abandon – something that has definitely played into the magazines success – and continues to do so here. The spread oozes a fun atmosphere, and is so aesthetically beautiful, and of course Vogue has to be given a few cool points for putting new age Rock ‘N Rollers in their magazine—MGMT? Come on!

This is just a great spread, so much so that I couldn’t let my lil tiff with my homie Anna keep me from posting this gem lol.

But then again, isn’t it this same “oh-i’ll-let-this-slide” attitude that has Vogue so melanin-deficient in the first place?

I’m just a slave to the machine.

Fuck.

and follow MESH. too of course HERE

Movies complete me, that’s a fact.

So, I’m exciting to showcase two new movies trailers for your visual delight. The first is for the highly anticipated sequel of the mega-successful hit Iron Man. Iron Man 2 picks up where the first movie left off and introduces new characters (played by the likes of Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson). If it’s anything like its predecessor, it won’t disappoint. Iron Man 2 releases May 7th, 2010.

The second trailer is a new theatric one released for the highly anticipated Tim Burton film Alice In Wonderland. The trailer offers more scenes and explanation for the film which serves as an actual sequel to the classic story. If you aren’t excited about this movie, go die. Seriously, Tim Burton is one of the best visionaries of our time, so I’m confidant this film will deliver the goods. It releases March 5, 2010.

#excited.
