It’s always great seeing art bring real, spontaneous emotion. Janelle is a true artist doing things her way and staying true to herself, and though it’s a slow burn she’s really gaining a lot of industry respect and success in doing so. If you haven’t already, make sure you give her latest album  The Archandroid a listen; definitely one of the best R&B albums of the year thus far.

Below is the music video for “Cold War,” one of my favorite tracks off the album. Real simple. Real powerful. Enjoy.

I’m trying to find my peace
I was made to believe there’s something wrong with me
And it hurts my heart
Lord have mercy, ain’t it plain to see?

Finding a truly spectacular holiday home to buy or rent can be an impossibly difficult, time-consuming task.

This absolutely terrifying notion -_- led some journalists to create a type of dream getaway real estate site that’s pretty fuckin amazing.

Enter: The Modern House , a U.K.-based real estate site dedicated to design, decor and distinguished homes.

Created in 2004 by architectural journalists Albert Hill and Mike Gibberd, the site aims to create a haven for people looking to invest in homes that stand out for their beauty, style, functionality and enviable landscapes all over the world.

Prices range from as little as £365 a week to £3,000,000 a week

One of the more intriguing options was this house in the south of France [for a very reasonable price] designed by architects Vicky Thornton and Jeff Smith of the MELCO company.

[MELCO] has made the most of wonderful views by designing the house with extensive glazing and three outdoor terrace areas. Their sensitive design, built using the best local materials, ensures that the house sits comfortably within its rural surroundings. Read more about the house here.

This could be a nice post-graduation present. Not tryna do Miami, LA. Find me in Petit B, Tarn-et-Garonne, France.

Au revoir, bitches.

Exile on Main Street.

Considered by many to be one of the greatest albums ever made. Legendary. And as with most works of lore, it is the story behind the making of Exile on Main Street by immortal English band The Rolling Stones that serves as the perfect compliment to the brilliance already laid down on wax.

Unable and refusing to even attempt paying taxes on their English property, the Stones – Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Mick Taylor, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts and a small group of ongoers made for France where Richards rented out Villa Nellcôte, a sixteen room mansion on the waterfront of Villefranche-sur-Mer in southern France. A former stronghold for the Nazis during WWII [the airvents where they recorded were shaped like Swatstikas], the mansion was lavishly decorated and ultimately ended up as the scene for one of the more decadent periods in rock n’ roll history.

For the majority of the summer of 1971, Richards, Jagger and company would spend thousands of dollars a week on high grade heroin [Richards once paid $9000 ($50,000 today) for some], have stoned sometimes semi-unconscious sex with their [and each others] wives and girlfriends, and craft in the dungeon-like basement of Nellcôte (the basement was airless, windowless, dripping ceilings, and old Nazi remnants), one of rock n roll’s all-time great albums.

Photographer Dominique Tarlé was on hand in Nellcôte to witness the history first hand, and his photos are included in the recently released 64-page booklet that comes with the limited run, 2-CD  deluxe edition Re-Issue.

Does it even matter anymore if Gaga’s “pretending” to be this weird, globe conquering glamazon? If that’s the case, a nice percentage of artists out there need to start pretending because she’s doing the damn thing!

I have to admit, when the vid firsts open up and homeboy’s rockin’ the fishnets and stilletto’s I was prepared to be over this video quick.. but things start to look (and straigten) up and this becomes so much more than a video. It’s fun to see things like this that remind us how far music videos have become since they were pioneered in the 80′s [thanks Mike!].

This video for Alejandro, directed by famed fashion photographer Steven Klein is a riot. The aesthetics are amazing, Gaga looks dope as shit, and per usual you probably don’t know what the fuck is going on, which only makes for more hypnotizing entertainment.

Gaga is a star. She could end up a legend, and everyone who hates on her are just that… haters. What, you don’t understand her? Her music is too “OD” .. sounds to me like a simpleton saying someone’s music isn’t simple enough for their tastes. You want basic, go HERE . Other than that, stay tuned.

Gaga’s trying to rule the [pop] world… watch out Bey.

PS:

Put you up on game time

Being that it was directed by Mr. Klein I think it’s clear to say that he drew inspiration from his Klein Academy spread he published in W Magazine last year featuring supermodel Lara Stone:

A few similarities, no?

J’ai Envie De Toi. i want you.

And such is the title of the new video from Brooklyn, NY artist Theophilus London off his new mixtape of the same name.  The video – drawing inspiration from the French “new wave” era of film (one of my faves) – is directed by all around bad ass Va$htie and stars the sexy Glenn Aya Lovrich. Real simple, the vid is a nice compliment to  London’s smooth flow. I mean, he is sampling Marvin Gaye… is there any other way to do it?!

I’ve been listening to TL for a min now, beginning with his earlier “The Charming Mixtape,” that dropped early last year and it’s apparent dude has a lot of talent. He reminds me of a younger, more playful Mos Def. The Charming Mixtape was dope, and judging from this first single, I’m expecting the same on the new project.  Definitely an artist to watch out for.

Popular brand Lacoste works my nerves. I can’t stand overly saturated brands (like Polo Ralph Lauren) and everyone’s uncanny desire to purchase their clothes–wanting quantity instead of individualistic quality. But I must say, the lookbook for Lacoste Red goes in. The vivid colors are used brilliantly and dare I say there are a few articles I am interested in.

Christian Schoeler is a German artist who has recently teamed together with Louis Vuitton to produce a series of hand-painted leather bags. The bags are inspired by 19th Century paintings are a great pieces of artistry and product. Only a few designer bags excite me, and these have surely been added to the list.

My roommate Tallas has a puppy named Burberry (He’s amazing). So I am mostly posting this because I have a thing for dogs and will be getting my own in 2 weeks (His name will be Bentley). I also have this thing for jeans. I think I am getting close to having over 30 pairs (Yea, I know) and my collection continues to grow. So the funky combination of denim and dogs below speaks to me.

Levi’s and Cram Jam Chest have come together to craft this interesting pooch. It’s a denim dog and I think it is pretty cool. Although not available for purchase in the United States, give the cool dog a view.

Wouldn’t exactly want to pet it though.
