What: DC Fashion Week: Washington Menswear Collection Fashion Show

When: Sunday February 15

Where: Doubletree Hotel, NW Washington D.C.

Why: To”define ‘Washingtonians Style’ for 2009″

So we at MESH aspire and ascribe only to greatness, or atleast his cousin potential... so instead of me giving you the rundown on EVERY line that was at this event, I’m going to give you a look at the two collections that atleast mildly intrigued us: Andrew Nowell Menswear and Ray Vincente Menswear.

ANDREW NOWELL MENSWEAR

Sighting his inspiration as being the tailoring-savvy Savile Row in London, punk rock, and hip-hop, AN Menswear definitely was somewhat eclectic. A few times he tried (sometimes unsuccessfully) to mesh these styles together. However there were  certain times – when he was dark and simple – in which Nowellwas intriguing.

Is he headed for Bryant Park? Not right this second. But are there a few pieces we think you should look into? Most definitely.

The tailoring on this look is very nice á la Savile Row: “the Tailoring Headquarters of the world.”dsc_0051

You can see the punk inspiration in this look with the combat boots, hat, and leather bombing jacket.

I’m never a fan for the “Will Smith in M.I.B.” look, but once again the tailoring here is impeccable and the flower brooch is a nice touch to complete the look.

Ray Vincente Menswear

Ray Vincente, I believe was the best altogether collection. It was unique, and I really aprreciated the odd patches of fabric and the peculiar construction of his pieces. If nothing, the look wasn’t generic, in fact it was plain strange – but in this case strange was good.

Once again, Vincente may not be booking his flight to New York in the fall just yet, but I would definitely recommend a few of his pieces to the style cognizant man who at times tires of the same generic look. dsc_0105

Notice the odd construction. Definitely not run-of-the-mill.

Honestly this look confused me. I didn’t know whether it was so droopy looking  because of poor construction, or if (look at the pants and the way the fabric hangs) Vincente was just going for a slightly bohemian look. I’m crossing my fingers and going with the latter.

Like I said these were the ones that atleast mildly garnered my attention.

As promised, MESH will be featuring events from DC Fashion Week. Our Feature of the Menswear show is in the works. Here is a little tease of the ASA Fashion show that happened Saturday on Howard University’s Campus.

As promised, MESH. and Urban Couture will both be featuring events from DC FASHION WEEK that has been taking place this week. First was a Men’s Wear showcase at the Double Tree in Arlington, VA. The show was really nice (a post about the fashions will be up on both blogs). Contributors from both blogs were given an interview about blogging, our take on fashion, Howard University, and more. (The interview to be featured on the DCFASHIONWEEK site soon).

Just thought I’d let everyone know that D.C. Fashion week is next week and MESH. along with Urban Couture will both most likely be covering the events of this humble little week in Fashion. Even if it means our wallets must be emptied!

More to come.
