Sneak Peak Rihanna on the cover of VOGUE Italia

I don’t remember having many black barbie dolls growing up, and I can probably bet a lot of other young black girls growing up didn’t either. The black barbie was never something glamorized and for obvious reasons. The ideal image was the traditional barbie, with blonde hair and blue eyes. However, VOGUE Italia has decided to pay tribute to black women once again with it’s second annual Black Issue. This time around the cover features black barbie–unlike it’s successor issue in 2008 which featured prominant black fashion models. What do you think?

Barbie has been an icon for whole generations which is why I really wanted to give a strong sign in step with the times, and dedicate the anniversary issue to Black Barbie – Franca Sozzani, Editor-in-Chief, Vogue Italia.
